P R E S S R E L E A S E As South Africa enters a new phase of political and economic change; change that inevitably creates and causes tension and stress in people, one of the largest global and South African yoga networks looks set to beat those biting blues. Holding workshops in Gauteng in June, to be hosted by world-renowned luminary Swami Niranjanananda Saraswati, the Satyananda Yoga network of South Africa will be addressing fellow teachers, students, followers and the public on yoga principles and techniques that will restore calm and clarity to their daily lives. Visiting from India for the first time ever, Swami Niranjanananda and his international guest speakers of leading authoritative figures in their fields will be focusing on increasing the networks footprint and more importantly, planting the seed of self-development to shine it’s divine light on the community. “We can work together to build a better life and better society by changing ourselves. The change however has to come from within us, and we have to be ready for this change, this transformation of consciousness, energy and mind, in the spirit of yoga,” says Sw Niranjanananda, “and what better place to plant this seed than in South Africa where awareness of change and transformation is understood.” Second in line to the Honourable Paramahamsa Satyananda Saraswati himself, Sw Niranjanananda is carrying on the legacy of Satyananda Yoga. Traditionally passed on from Master to Disciple only, the Satyananda yoga system was one of the first to be shared publicly and put into written format such as text books for the Bihar School of Yoga in Munger, India. Niranjanananda was also the founder of the world’s first accredited educational institution wholly devoted to teaching yoga and advanced studies in yogic sciences through the Bihar Yoga Bharati: an Institution that offers certificates, diplomas and degrees in complete scientific and yogic education studies that have been adapted to the needs of today. Although the school is open to students from all over the world, Satyananda has also travelled the globe opening centres and teaching aspirants the ancient yoga systems of India. Bearing testimony to the success of the techniques and the user-friendly methods is the Satyananda Yoga network of South Africa. With yoga schools and centres in the major cities of South Africa, the network is united in their commitment to community upliftment and is in the process of developing teachers in their unique programme for HIV/Aids sufferers. Representatives of the Satyananda yoga network from 4 provinces will be congregating in Gauteng to host the workshop and international guests of the Satyananda Yoga Tradition. “Yoga is to become the culture of the future, it will spill into our everyday lives,” concludes Paramahamsa Satyananda. “Many things in the world are epidemic, but inspiration is most epidemic. This is just the kind of inspiration South African’s need as they embark on a new journey of ever-present change.” Evening talk at Lakshmi Narayan Temple, 42 Kingfisher Street, Lenasia on Thursday 26 June 2008. The workshop will be held at Southern Sun Grayston Convention Centre, Cnr Grayston Drive, Sandton from Friday 27 June – Sunday29 June 2008.
